Back from Jakarta!

Boy. The river there IS indeed the longest lavatory ever! ;p

Learnt so much from this trip. *no regretz AT All*

Labour cost is cheap in Indon n dat explains y all the movie commercials are painted! Quite authentic. ;p

The dollarization effect contributed to Indon's high inflation. Thanks to IMF too for raising the interest rate to 30%. *buekh* !loan sharks which is indirectly related to suharto's downfall! Urgh. Suharto.D guy who has an estimated personal wealth of $16 Billion US. I never did truly understood why ppl were dying to campaign as President till then.

Indon. The disparity between the rich and poor is soooo great >.<
thx to corruption. That is undeniably a FACT.
It's because of corruption, most residents are deprived from education in Indon. School fees is actually not high, but its the admission fees you hafta pay the schools which is the root of all probz. And these 'fees' goes into 'whose pockets'? Beats me. This statement is supported by Ibu Ann , my host in Jakarta.

Statue of Pizza Man ;p

Yes, the government is trying to change the mentality but corrupted officers are so used to it, *easy money, who dont want 'em*, the only hope is on the generation being currently educated. But that will take, like say, at least 20 yrs? Thank gosh for the few people who have a heart and soul for the nation.

A lil about Indon's rents:
Following the economic crisis of the late 90’s, the US$ rate was set at certain value against Rupiah which was known locally as a pegged (or fixed) rate, lower than actual current market exchange rates. Most US$ rental rates have changed only moderately, but the pegged rate value has altered regularly. Even up to now, almost eight years after the Thai Bhat crisis that sparked a run on the Indonesian Rupiah, this 'pegging' remains the trend. The average pegged rate for this quarter was adjusted to Rp6,430/US$, up from Rp6,203/US$.

Politics
in Indon is pretty volatile. The parties r pretty scary too. According to Kam, the bus driver had to use a diff colour headband everyday so as not to have the school bus being attacked. Swt. They might actually climb onto the bus and start attacking the kids!

(D building wif blue dome in the pic(right) is the one charging rental at US15000/month!)

Kam and his family had to leave Jakarta once during their evacuation & Ibu Ann had to pile stacks of money into an envelope so when the ppl beg for money, they will juz open the window and throw the money in an opposite direction then hit the road before they start attacking them! This, all because of the disparity between rich and the poor.

One thing i can't get off my mind is how immoral few people can be. While on the highway, please beware as there will be small children, mothers or grandmothers knocking on your car window begging for money. If you don't pay, they'll scratch your car with a coin/knife. Swt. These ppl are ppl who are plain lazy n chooses the easy way out. They are capable of working, but chose to conduct such acts. No matter what, i still think it's wrong. ;p
The image of the girl is still haunting me. So young, so innocent, yet influenced by parents to do evil. *feels sorry*

DO U KNOW dat you have to undergo security check everywhere you go?
office, banks, hotels, condo and YES EVEN SHOPPING COMPLEX! ;p

Will inflation in Indon improve in an increasing rate? We'll see. :)
Best of luck,
liz.
*ps. couldnt take many pics as it was really dangerous on the roads. >.< (pics coming right up. photobucket is jammed right now. :)
